This illustration show the god Dionysos, known to the Romans as Bacchus, blessing the wine in a Calyx- Krater that is sitting upon a small altar out in front of a Greek styled temple. He is modeled after Antinous, the favorite of Emperor Hadrian.

Notice the beautifully painted detail of the temple. This gives you some idea how the beautifully carved moldings on these ancient buildings were painted both by the Greeks and the Romans.
